Another one down...
It's taken me a while to complete this one. There's a lot going on at the moment that has kind of restricted my reading time. I have had a lot of lifts back and fore to work which have limited my reading time.
The novelisation of Attack of the Clones is a lot better than I remember and fixes some of the things from the final film version. Salvatore has added 'scenes' and tidied up some of the very creaky dialogue. It works too. You can't help but invision scenes from the film, but I found my mind's eye filled the gaps in adequately. Don't get me wrong, it's all still there. He couldn't clear up a lot of the stories faults. The Anakin/Padme rmoance is still unconvincing. If I had used some of the lines they use to each other I would never have had a relationship, never mind a shag. He also glosses over the Threepio/Artoo 'comdey' moments very quickly. They are there, but he does not dwell on them. I get the feeling he wasn't a fan either.
I really liked the way he dealt with the lightsaber duels. His descriptions were a lot better than the actual filmed versions. Count Dooku's fighting style is more fencing than just hacking or twirling a lightsaber. Salavtore makes it more fluid than the screen version. Yoda is still fucking awesome.
There is one thing that does grate on me. It's Yoda's final line:
Obi-Wan: I have to admit that without the clones, it would have not been a victory.
Yoda: Victory? Victory you say? Master Obi-Wan, not victory. The shroud of the dark side has fallen. Begun the Clone War has.
I doubt very much the world powers at the time called it World War I. That is more to do with the material he had to work with, than his choice. Not the worst line in the book, but far from the best.
Overall, despite the faults, I did throughly enjoy this one. It's a marked improvement on The Phantom Menace.
So, we move onwards...
I have had to make change. Although I wanted to move into the new canon books that this point, there is one more I want to read. It's the novelisation of the Clone Wars movie that kicks off the outstanding TV series (it's starts off as a kids show and gets better and darker as time goes on). This is an important turning point as it introduces Anakin's Padawan, Ahsoka Tano. A young Jedi who starts off as very annoying, but will have a big impact on future events. It is a kid's book, so it should be a quick read.
I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to give me some feedback. As a result, I will be posting my thoughts every 5 chapters or so. I will also try and add some other content as well. So far, a lot of love and I appreciate it greatly.
