A bit of a catch up & a request for feedback
Back in 1999 Del Rey books launched a massive Star Wars publishing event, The New Jedi Order. It was a pretty hefty reading project. It spanned 19 novels, 3 e-book novellas and 3 short stories. Later on this storyline was elaborated on in comic form. R A Salvatore wrote the first novel in the series, Vector Prime. Salvatore is the man that dropped a moon on Chewbacca. Yeah, you read that right. A moon! Obviously, there is more to the story than that, but that is another project for another day. It was a pretty ballsy move back then. Nowadays it looks like Chewie is going to be the only one of the original characters to see this new trilogy through. For more information on The New Jedi Order series pop over to Wookieepedia.
R A Salvatore was chosen to write the novelisation of Attack of the Clones. I am not knocking Terry Brooks (The Phantom Menace novelisation author). He can write. Bloody hell! How many Shannara novels are out there. I just get the feeling that Salvatore was given more freedom with the Attack of the Clones or at least more time. It is a lot more polished. I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying this one so far. It's making my bus journeys to and from work a lot more tolerable at least. It certainly distracts me from the bloke from Llanelli who talks in his sleep on the bus. I am up to chapter 12 so far and keen to crack on with the next chapter. This book is a lot more crafted. The (weak) story is elaborated upon to the point the first 4-5 chapters feature scenes which aren't in the film. They are referenced to in a few lines of dialogue, but aren't actually seen. This was a bloody good idea. It pulled me in straight away. I am not going to get to far in to it tonight. It's been a long day.
What I will say though is, I am stoked to see Clone Wars in making a come back for one more season. I am, very slowly, working my way through the early seasons and in a week & half the final season of Rebels will soon hit the shelves.
I do have a small request for any of the avid readers of my blog. Please leave a comment on Facebook or Twitter if you like what I have written so far. I would like to have a little feedback on what I am doing right/wrong etc. If you have seen me on Twitter, give us a little re-tweet.
